Channel 4 Makes TV History With Britain's First AI Presenter !

Press Release : https://www.channel4.com/press/news/channel-4-makes-tv-history-britains-first-ai-presenter

Quote

Channel 4’s Dispatches has become the first British television programme to use an AI presenter – as part of a deliberate on-screen stunt to show just how convincing artificial intelligence has become, and to highlight the speed at which the technology is developing.

Airing on Monday 20 October at 8pm on Channel 4, and now available to stream on Channel4 Will AI Take My Job? Dispatches investigates how AI automation is reshaping the workplace, pitting humans against machines in a series of real-world tests across medicine, law, fashion and music. But in a twist saved for the end of the film, it’s revealed that the programme’s own presenter, who appears throughout reporting from different locations, was entirely AI-generated.

The project represents a striking leap in both storytelling and technology, demonstrating the growing accessibility of AI tools that can convincingly replicate human presence on screen.

End Quote (from the press release).
But also, this of note is on the press release, that states :

Channel 4 has clear editorial guidelines governing the ethical use of artificial intelligence.

Oh ?!! - but it messed up in this show though, by promoting a scam. Did it really check it's own guidelines ?

Apparently Channel4 has some Ai principals (weak guidelines).

Channel4’s AI Principles are available to read here: https://assets-corporate.channel4.com/_flysystem/s3/2025-05/Channel%204%20AI%20principles.pdf

And yes this is a weak understanding of Ai it's produced, and I hope staff do take note at the channel, as this document should be binned, as it doesn't meet its own editorial guidance in what it can broadcast and what can/cannot be aired in shows.

This episode of Dispatches was called Will AI Take My Job? Usually when something like this employs a question mark in the title - it’s because the answer is usually NO. But if we know AI is going to render us all useless, why would anyone watch Dispatches?

In this documentary, a Ai Lawyer website was pitted against a real lawyer. When I saw this, a few of my red flags went up, and so it took me 10 minutes to research who was behind the Ai Lawyer website and the company, here's what I found...

WHAT IS PROJECT GARFIELD ?

NamePeriod
PROJECT GARFIELD LTD05 May 2023 - 23 Jan 2025

*as listed on their Companies House listing/founding information page.

But lets find out more about this company.

Website : https://www.garfield.law/

SRA News post : https://www.sra.org.uk/news/news/press/garfield-ai-authorised/

But now it gets really interesting.. if we look into the company, how it's funded, where it's located etc

Meet it's creator : Philip John Young

Who created/founded this Law Ai in 2023 :

https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/14848790

Important note of address :

5th May 2023, started and registered at this address > 20-22 Wenlock Road London N1 7GU

this address is used by people who want to hide their own personal address and business contact information. Over the pandemic it was recognised by police that it was being used by scammers registering fake companies to do with insurance, law, health and travel.

On 14th January 2025, moved to this address > Pantiles Chambers, 85 High Street, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England, TN1 1XP . It is a co-working space. But they are not there and using the office, because there's no staff.

How many employees does the company have ? ONE (yet there's a co-founder, see below)

It's classed as a Micro-company, and doesn't pay tax and doesn't have any office overheads
you can find the accounts and the company documents here

- 2nd Feb 2025 for the latest financial documents which are very slim, and he's in debt as creditors are after him..

The other co-founder is : Daniel LONG

personal website : https://daniellong.co/

Daniel gave up his education to do this. his education that he wanted to do was a
PhD Neuromorphic Photonics using Quantum Technologies, at the University of Queensland in Australia.

He writes on his blog -

My academic background is in quantum physics, with research experience in simulating superconducting qubits and developing neuromorphic systems.
In addition to this experience I have co-founded a legal AI startup, Garfield AI, and also previously worked as a data scientist, on both biomedical and financial applications.
I have a deep interest in understanding how intelligence emerges within the brain and how artificial systems can adopt such principles and architectures.

Yet he isn't a coder, and doesn't have a background in Law or any legal knowledge in the UK. Strange things, right ?

His Ai adventure also started after the pandemic, in 2022, just experimenting with other platforms and bots. https://daniellong.co/projects.html

So a question for you - Would you put your trust in a person who has zero background in law, and seems to jet around the world, here's his photos https://daniellong.co/gallery.html . This student doesn't want to be held accountable for his actions, it seems. And made a mistake by jumping on to the Ai bandwagon.

Would YOU trust these guys via their Ai in Law to make small claims for courts ? Would your case hold up in could and be really accurate ?

The SRA say's this on their website :

Before authorising Garfield.Law, we engaged with the owners to consider the firm's processes and assure ourselves that our rules can be met by an AI service. For instance, we have sought reassurance that there are appropriate processes in place to quality-check work, keep client information confidential, and safeguard against conflicts of interests.

But, I bet they didn't check the company out, like I have done. Oops!

The SRA also say :

Paul Philip, SRA Chief Executive, said: 'The first regulatory approval of an AI-based law firm is a landmark moment for legal services in this country.

'With so many people and small businesses struggling to access legal services, we cannot afford to pull up the drawbridge on innovations that could have big public benefits. Responsible use of AI by law firms could improve legal services, while making them easier to access and more affordable.

'Yet trust and confidence in regulated legal services depends on the public knowing that high professional standards are being met. Any new law firm comes with potential risks, but the risks around an AI-driven law firm are novel. So we have worked closely with this firm to make sure it can meet our rules, and all the appropriate protections are in place.

'As this is likely to be the first of many AI-driven law firms, we will be monitoring progress of this new model closely, so we can both manage the risks and realise the benefits to consumers.'

We have a
dedicated team committed supporting innovation in the legal sector. This includes working with law firms and technology providers to test ideas and help develop new ways of working which could benefit the public.

I bet the new ceo/chief exec Sarah Rapson hasn't looked into this either.

A Case Of Missing Identity:

There's a few blog posts on this "ai lawyer" website, such as this one saying how good it is..

https://www.garfield.law/press/garfield-ai-demonstrates-real-world-success-with-7000-debt-recovery

But, it reads as a press release and sales pitch. And then there's it's writer. Notice who it's written by ? take a good look at the photo and the name and title of the person

All the "news" pieces are also Ai generated https://www.garfield.law/press

My sum up and what to do next.

1. Report my findings to the SRA for response
2. Share my findings with Channel 4 and the exec who signed off on this documentary
3. Share my findings (this live post) with the production company who made it
4. Report my findings to Action Fraud and Police, under Cybercrime.
5. Report the TV Prod company to the Police
6. Make a report to OfCom about this episode of Dispatches, about it promoting a scam

After the Pandemic, there was a seismic shift from NFT and Bitcoin/Blockchain to Ai. Lots of websites sprung up, taking advantage of the api's from OpenAi (see my other post on my deep investigation in to them). Lot's of small companies set up websites and make bold claims " by using their Ai services, we can make your life better" well you get the jist. But, look deeper into the websites and the company behind it and you'll find it's a scam, a financial and data scam, which are illegal around the world.

remember.... "if it sounds too good to be true, then it usually is"

Open Ai

On Friday 17th November 2023, something strange happened to Open Ai , the well known #chatGPT Artificial Intelligence company with it's HQa in San Francisco. It's CEO was fired and others soon followed.  But here's what I know about the company and it's "Ai". I will keep on adding to this blog post over the coming days/weeks, as this unfolds.
